Hardscaping · Residential & Commercial
The parts of a yard you walk on
Patios, fire pit areas, retaining walls and walkways, quoted per job, plus solar pergolas, which are a new offer for us and we will say so plainly.
What this covers
Hardscaping is the half of a property that does not grow back. Get it right and it is there for decades; get the base wrong and it moves in the first freeze, which is why most of the work that matters happens before a single paver is visible.
Patios and fire pit areas are the ones people picture. Retaining walls are the ones that actually earn their money, because a wall is usually solving a water or a slope problem and the seating area on top of it is the bonus. Walkways are the smallest jobs we do in this group and often the ones that change how a house reads from the road.
Everything here is quoted per job. There is no square-foot price we can honestly print, because the same patio costs differently depending on what is under it, how far it is from where a truck can park, and what has to be moved to get there.
Solar pergolas are a genuinely new offer for us. We will build one and we would like to, but nobody should hire us for one on the strength of a photograph of somebody else's, so there isn't one on this site. Ask us where we are with it and you will get a straight answer.

Questions
Hardscaping, answered
- Why won't you give a price per square foot?
- Because it would be a number we could not stand behind. Access, base depth, drainage and what has to come out first move the cost of the same-sized patio further than the size does. We look at the site, then we give you one number for the job, and that is the number you pay.
- Can you build a retaining wall that actually holds?
- That depends on what it is holding, and it is the first thing we will want to look at. A wall retaining a slope with water behind it is a different structure from a wall edging a bed, and pricing them the same is how walls end up leaning. We will tell you which one you have.
- Have you built a solar pergola before?
- No. It is an offer we have opened and not yet a project we have completed, and we would rather tell you that here than let you find out later. If you want to be the first, we will talk you through exactly what we would do and you can decide.
